McClellanville South Carolina, is situated on the South
Carolina Intracoastal Waterway between Charleston ad Georgetown.
It’s a quaint waterfront village that is a unique
get-a-way. Although McClellanville is only 107 miles from the
state capital of South Carolina, Columbia,15 minutes from Mount
Pleasant and 20 minutes from historice Georgetown, you will feel like
you are world’s away as you stroll down the roads of
McClellanville with hundred year old live oaks dripping with Spanish
moss, its tall pines and palmettos that line tidal creeks which open
into salt marshes which flow into the intracoastal waterway.
McClellanville is surrounded by the 350,000 acres of The Cape Romain
Wildlife Refuge, The Francis Marion National Forest , and the Santee
Coastal Reserve.
This quaint village has preserved its Coastal South
Carolina heritage. It has a few shops, the Village Museum and a
deep water South Carolina Intracoastal port, the Leland Marina.
It is not uncommon for vessels up to 150' to dock or
moor out on Jeremy Creek at McClellanville. McClellanville has a
reputation for Shrimping and Fishing.
The land on which the village was built was formerly two
tracts, that of A.J. McClellan and Mr. Matthews. The
Matthews tract was bought by R.T. Morrison, whose main residence was
Laurel Hill plantation, four miles to the south. Both men soon
sold lots on the creek to planters of the South Santee region and the
village soon emerged. McClellanville the village was founded by
rice planters after their summer colony at the mouth of the Santee
River was destroyed by the hurricane of 1822. Several years later the
village became a year-round home to the descendants of planters.
Today, McClellanville is a self-sufficient community of
schools, homes, churches, shops and docking facilities. The
principal economic activity is commercial fishing and shrimping. It has
undergone a massive renovation since Hurricane Hugo struck in 1989.

2,795. Since 2000 McClellanville has a population growth of 7.50
percent. McClellanville is located in Charleston County, South
